Retro Scooters
Designing, importing or distributing older scooters is challenging but rewarding for real scooter enthusiasts. If designed by amateurs or small workshops, retro scooters are often made of spare parts, but they are also produced by large companies and distributed through networks of dealers. This may sound basic or simple, but appearances are misleading. The adaptation of older spare parts to suit modern requirements is titanic work and not anyone can do it; hence, if you are riding an nice retro vehicle, be happy! It surely took a lot of work to make!
If we judge by the significant technological progress, retro scooters seem redundant on the one hand while on the other they belong to classic heritage, representing an age in the evolution of two-wheel vehicles. LML company still produces retro scooters, although not on a very large scale. Most retro scooters have two stroke engines with induction on reed valves. The simplicity of the technical design is in fact the explanation for the high endurance level specific to such models. Simplicity, reliability and respect for both, become the best mode of discussing retro scooters under the circumstances.
Retro scooters are also encountered in private collections, and some of the designs really belong to past ages in the history of motorcycles. But collectors normally buy them for display not for road use. The modern retro scooters just copy the look of the 80s but in fact rely on modern technologies in their structure. Non-conformists, 80s fans, late hippies and all sorts of user categories will thus enjoy the look and the feeling retro scooters give to a real enthusiast. Plus, the preference for the oldish look could very well be a form of resistance against the sleek uniformity of the modern design.
Modern retro scooters are more efficient in terms of fuel consume as compared to their original counterparts. It is beyond any doubt that the fuel consume of modern scooters is a lot lower in comparison to that of the motorcycles in the 80s. Plus, even if they may seem trapped in time, retro scooters camouflage their modernity under an exterior design while still preserving their 21st century comfort level. Therefore, we should not assume that anything that looks old is necessarily old too.
